The “Sea, Stars & Sun” exhibition allows you to discover the work of an iconic photographer, Brylak. Born in Nice, it was in the early 80s that this autodidact decided to start photography. The man has audacity, he goes up very quickly to Paris to present his work to a press agency which kindly turns him away, but he is by no means discouraged.
It is first in Nice that the photographer will experience success. He carries out campaigns for the largest advertising agencies (National Campaign Blanc Bleu 4X3) and for the Town Hall of Nice (“Nice listens to the sea”) and builds up a clientele (Diffazur swimming pool as well as many other brands of prestige). At the same time, he develops work as a fashion photographer (JIKI haute couture collections), as well as numerous swimwear collections, also leading him to charming photography (Lui, Newlook).
But Brylak is driven by one of the most mysterious and interesting forces; the spirit of adventure. At the very end of the 1980s, he left for New York and once again offered his services to a press agency, the Gamma Liaison Agency, which this time agreed to send him as a correspondent in Miami. So begins a new life. He multiplies the reports in Florida and all over the world. Always on the lookout, he produces scoops that propel him to the cover of the biggest French and international magazines: Paris Match, Forbes, Hola, Chi, Bunte…
The “Sea, Stars & Sun” exhibition covers the last ten years of Brylak’s work, who decided, after his adventures around the world, to return to the Côte d’Azur, his favorite terrain. International stars, Beyonce, Stallone, Sting, Brad Pitt, Rihanna, are photographed in the most emblematic places: Monaco, Nice, Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, Cannes, Saint-Tropez.
In Monaco, he grabs Rihanna in her blue dress, at Nice airport, it is Karl Lagerfeld “Incognito” that he surprises. Brylak works carefully on his prints, the colors are saturated, the backgrounds are discounted, sometimes completely erased, the treatment of the clothes accentuates this impression of fuzziness, the faces themselves are flawlessly accurate. Through this series of photos, the portrait of a multi-talented artist emerges who has always known how to preserve his personality and his outlook on the world.
